How do you convince your mom to let you go to boarding school?
Q. i would love to go to boarding school.i've talked to my mom about and she'll talk about it with me buts thats all it goes too.i was just like to my brother im going to boarding school and hes like to my mom "is she" and she said no.i dont understand why i couldnt go. where i want to go is only three hours away and i could get a scholarship there. does anybody have anybody arguments for me?

A. Perhaps it's a finance issue Olivia. If this is not the issue, than you could ask her what her objections are. Pick a time and place where you will not be distracted. Don't interrupt her when she is listing her objection instead, listen intently to every objection. Again, don't say anything when she is sharing this information with you because this is essential. Don't lose your cool just repeat the objections to her so she can be satisfied you listen and understood her objections. Assure her you understand her reasons then take these objections one by one and calmly explain your position. Again, I stress the need for calmness in your approach. Good luck to you.

What exactly happens to people during the water boarding process?

A. Usually one is strapped to a board (hence the word boarding) and tilted so they are at an angle, feet above head. There would be a cloth bag (usually) over the water bord-ees head. Water is poured over the head. It is akin to being drowned without being able to drown.

What expenses should I consider when operating a horse boarding facility.?
Q. I'm considering purchasing a facility and establishing a horse boarding facility in the SF Bay area. I have done some research, including reading "Horsekeeping on a small acerage", and probably have a handle on the obvious per horse expenses. What are ballpark planning numbers for utilities, insurance, maintenance, stable hand, manure removal, etc? Where can I find them?

A. Utilities, insurance, maintenance, stable hand, manure removal, and similar costs are highly location-dependent. You need to look at those costs at the area where you want to go into business. (FWIW, San Francisco Bay area is, in general, a "high rent district". ) About ten years ago a friend and I sat down and considered operating a boarding/training stable. Not as trainers, our business plan involved having a professional manager run the place and leasing blocks of stalls to trainers. What we found out, and what still seems to be true-- only more so now than it was ten years ago-- is that nobody makes money boarding horses.
