How can you tell if the stickers are correct on a rubik's cube?
Q. I think someone messed with my rubik's cube and moved some of the stickers around. Is there anyway to check and make sure they're correct? I haven't learned how to fully solve it yet, so that's not really and option. Thank you.

A. You're stuffed. Pull all the stickers off and get all the sides the same colour and start again. It happened to me once Try to find a cube without stickers, just colours on the plastic if possible to stop that again. But then someone could just make a few moves without you knowing...;)

What is an easy method for solving a Rubik Cube?

A. Go to youtube, and look up the channel called pogobat. His tutorial is the easiest, and the best by far. Once you get comfortable solving with his way, try the Fridrich method. Google Fridrich mothod and click on Jessica Fridrich's speed cubing page.

How can I use Group Theory to solve a Rubik's Cube without guessing?
Q. I thought that group theory was a way to solve a Rubik's cube, so I did my research and I have a good understanding of how it works. The problem is that I don't know how to apply these mathematics into solving the cube. Any help or links would be appreciated, Thank you.
Asked by John S - Sat Feb 28 23:26:33 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well, unfortunately, truly "solving" a Rubik's cube in group theory amounts to finding a "reduced word" for the unsolved position of the Rubik's cube. This is in general an open problem (we don't even know how to find the length of the reduced word), so good luck on your goal. We can analyze certain things about the Rubik's cube using group theory, but I don't think a knowledge of group theory will help more than just making sequences of moves and noting all that the sequence does in the end.

A. Really, if you knew about how to solve the cube, you would already know the person asking the question would have already looked at instructions. Really, creating a cross usually isn't common sense, so I'm assuming you read to do that from somewhere. A very nice page created by Dan Harris with animations to explain how to place the edges in a cross. Detailed description also created by Dan Harris, also helpful. Really, there are other methods to solving without using the cross, such as the "Petrus" Method or "Corner-first method" (if you want to find more of those, google) but I personally find that for a person just now learning how to solve a rubik's cube, they should learn with the cross. Happy cubing!

What is the best lubricate for a Rubik's/DIY Cube?
Q. Ok So I have a DIY Cube that was already lubricated but, I dropped it in water and alot of the lube came off. So my Question is, What is the best lubricate for a Rubik's/DIY Cube?
Asked by tabby - Fri Feb 8 15:54:30 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Silicon. It works the best, and it is very cheap and widely availabe. however, you must be very careful about it, else, you run the risk of killing your cube. I assume that you already know how to lubricate the cube. take it apart, put some lube on the parts of the cube that turn, though do not over-do it. Next, reassemble the cube in the right order, scramble it and solve it. If it feels fine and you can cut corners on it, then take it apart again without touching the insides of the cube. Leave it to dry. Once it does, put it back together and feel the difference.

What are the differences between Rubik's Cube stickers?
Q. I am looking to buy a new set of stickers for my Rubik's Cube. On the Rubik's website, they sell both printed polypropylene plastic stickers and PVC stickers. What are the differences between these two types? Is one better than the other? Also, how do the Cubesmith stickers compare to these ones?
Asked by creswelljames - Sat Oct 11 13:02:15 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There's not really a difference, but I would recommend buying CubeSmith stickers rather than the ones from the Rubik's site. But if you really want colors that will last, you should buy tiles, one CubeSmith, they have smooth or textured tiles. The tiles just stick right onto your cube and can stay there for a looong time. Last way longer than stickers. If the tiles loose the stick on the back, you can glue them on. The tiles work really well, smooth tiles are just smooth surface while textured have like grits and textures on the surface.

Q. What should I use to cut a Rubik's cube up with? I am trying to make a custom puzzle and it requires cutting of the cube.
Asked by seanwatts111893 - Sat Aug 23 22:36:41 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It really depends on how precise you are making them. If you just use a dremel tool you can make cuts that are accurate enough. You should use casting resin to cast copies of the pieces you want to, and you can sand down the pieces to make it so there are less imperfections. I am assuming you aren't making anything complicated, so this will work.

Q. I have been asked what benefits or advantages i can get from playing rubik's cube, care to help?
Asked by Marvin L - Tue Jan 22 00:07:50 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Studies have shown that engaging in mental activity through games and puzzles can help keep the mind sharp in old age. Just as regular physical exercise helps the body, regular mental exercise has benefits for the mind. Completing puzzles and crosswords, and board games have been shown to be beneficial to the maintenance of short-term memory, eye-hand co-ordination and general concentration. In a five-year study involving more than 400 participants over 75 years of age, it was found that activities that involve thought, such as reading, writing and board games, were more likely to ward off dementia. Of the physical activities trialled, only dancing was of any use in keeping our minds fit.

A. There are a couple of really good speedcubing methods out there. Bascially you have two possible scenarios: memorize few sequences (but take longer amounts of time) or memorize hundreds of turn sequences (and get very fast times). The two most popular speedcubing methods I've seen are the Lars Petrus ( and the Jessica Fridrich method ( Both are for advanced cube solvers, so don't even try them if you are just beginning. One of the most complex parts about those methods, if you really want to get good, is that you need to throw away your favorite color. Most cube solvers start with a particular color, and work from there, regardless of what method you use to solve it. However, it is possible that starting with a different color… [cont.]

A. With over 43 quintillion possible configurations and only one solution to Rubik's cube, you're doing pretty good. By the last four, you mean the corner pieces on the last layer, To put the corner pieces in the correct position regardless of orientation, find one piece that is in the correct position (if no pieces are in the correct position, do this algorithm anyway). Hold the cube so that the piece is in the up right front position, then do this algorithm: U R U' L' U R' U' L What this algorithm does is, it rotates the other three corner pieces one place counterclockwise without moving the one in the up right front position. Keep doing that until all four pieces are in the correct position, not necessarily oriented correctly. Then… [cont.]

A. Despite appearances, there is more than one solved combination IF there are markings on the center squares. During traditional solving methods, these six center squares get rotated a lot, but we don't notice because they're just solid colored squares. However, as soon as something is written on them, it gets jumbled and flipped around during solving, so by the end of a regular solve most or all of the center squares will be misaligned with the rest of the squares. An experienced cuber can correct one or two at a time (at the expense of some of the others' orientations), but it takes a true expert to get all six centers realigned at the same time. If you just write your message on the corner and edge cubies, though, it is certain to be… [cont.]

Q. Basically what I want to know is if you can write a message on a rubik's cube, scramble it, and give it to someone to solve. Is there only one final configuration, or are there many?

A. Despite appearances, there is more than one solved combination IF there are markings on the center squares. During traditional solving methods, these six center squares get rotated a lot, but we don't notice because they're just solid colored squares. How to put the centre piece cubie of an Official Rubik's Cube on?
Q. Today I accidentally dropped my official Rubik's Cube brand cube and it basically exploded :( Everything else is fine except one centre piece cubie which fell off. Can I just superglue it back to the black turny thing or is it broken forever?

A. most of the time you can just stick it back on i wouldn't suggest superglue. if you do use super glue be very careful where you put it, you might just get you cube stuck...personal experience lol. most of the time you can fold a piece of paper and stick in there and put the piece over it. that usually does it for me
